All great. I go with “Iran elected to receive” just after I read in the Epoch Times about

Secret Program: The B-2 stealth bomber strikes on Iran’s Fordow uranium enrichment facility were the culmination of a 15-year secret program that monitored the site and developed a custom weapon to blow up the mountain fortress.

Well the play got a touch down after we finally got a coach (Pappi Trump) not afraid to call it’

This is a very interesting article discussing the Parliamentarian in the Senate who is blocking the provisions in the Big Beautiful Bill that defund taxpayer funds for "gender affirming care" to minors and illegals, etc.

I hope JD Vance can read this and take action - Thune is being a pussy.

"In a system based on self-government, it is grotesque to imagine that an unelected staffer might block policies championed by a duly-elected President, passed by an elected House, and supported by a majority in the Senate. The claim that Vance must defer is not fidelity to rules, it is cowardice in the face of bureaucratic inertia."

I would think someone on Medicaid would have more pressing issues than affirming their gender. How about getting a job, and working to become financially independent instead of living off the dole? Getting off Medicaid should be their priority.

John Anthony's avatar

An interesting peek into the Senate plumbing. I totally get why Amuse is pushing this angle although it could have ramifications not unlike Harry Reid removing Cloture on judicial appointments. Another thought is that Trump might like to see Thune hang himself and is handing him the rope.

Expand full comment
Mark Adams's avatar

The Senate views itself as an august club where tradition takes precedence over almost everything else. I see the point that the Parliamentarian shouldn’t be fired just because she makes a ruling the majority at the time doesn’t like. On the other hand, the Byrd Rule makes no sense when, as was said, an unelected official can override the intentions of the elected officials for whom she works.

Btw, Vance can’t help with this. The constitution gives the VP, in the Senate, only these duties: To preside over the proceedings when present, to cast a tie-breaking vote, and to reveal how the states’ presidential electors voted every four years. The VP doesn’t have any other official role in the Senate.

Expand full comment
PoetKen Jones's avatar

Jones, J. Concurs. The remedy is the overturning of the Byrd rule.

My understanding is that JD Vance can over rule the Parliamentarian.

Can’t wait for the Mamdani lineup. Shall we call them Memedani’s? Heard a sobering assessment of our country — hell, the world — from Ivan Pondracic, a Yugoslavian emigre and now tenured professor at Hillsdale. Mamdani is the poster child for aggrieved generations of “It’s not fair” morons. Pondracic laid the fiasco at the feet of Millennials. Perhaps.
