Nice summary of not-so-nice news.

Re: the New Orleans case, Townhall.com has a video clip of an FBI agent saying the agency will take the lead on the investigation and “this is not a terrorist event,” but they have found IEDs that could be “viable.” Not a terrorist event, the agent declares at the outset, despite the ISIS flag conspicuously affixed to the truck. Shake my head.

The same gang of idiots who failed to connect the dots on 9-11, failed to protect our young gymnasts from a serial sexual predator and use SWAT teams of cowards to arrest harmless older men and "dangerous" Catholics who want to attend the Latin mass. Thank heaven for Kash Patel.

It's interesting that CNN and the NYT are both strongly implying this is a terrorist attack. Which makes me naturally suspicious.....

It’s come out that he converted to Islam about a year ago and promptly began to radicalize. There’s evidence that he didn’t act alone. Reportedly, a different driver brought the truck across the border from Mexico two days before the vehicle assault, and surveillance cameras appeared to show others planting IEDs in NOLA’s French Quarter, which fortunately didn’t detonate. The FBI has raided his residence in Houston, which is a block from a mosque.

As usual, powerlineblog.com is on the case with fresh updates.

Edit: The FBI now thinks he did act alone. It’s been confirmed that he placed the IEDs, not somebody else. Perhaps an example of reporters trying to be first without waiting to be right.

Expand full comment

From everything I've read, he grew up at least nominally Muslim, but he seems to have had a burst of fervor after his last divorce.

The truck crossing the Mexico border appears thus far to be unrelated, since the truck was a rental vehicle.

I haven't gotten more detailed info the IEDs yet.

Expand full comment

It was reported early on that the electric Ford truck crossing the border at Eagle Pass had the same license plate as the assault truck. They know this from plate-detecting cameras at the border.

Expand full comment

Yes, that was reported, and is likely true. But since it was a rental vehicle, it is less likely to be a factor in the attack.

Expand full comment

So possibly an FBI setup of some sort?

Out law enforcement on fed and local level has to get serious quickly. We knew that the Trump coalition will have a lot on its plate. And coalition by definition has diverse views on solutions. That in itself should prove to the left that President Trump will not be a dictator.

The contrast between the Las Vegas and New Orleans law enforcement is startling. I have no doubt that the Nevada cops will resolve this in short order while the New Orleans midwits seemed to be trying to out-grieve each other. We get it, it’s tragic. The NOLA police chief’s responses were ridiculous.

Until Trump actually takes office, everything said about him and what he's going to or not going to do, is speculation.

Yes the NOLA attack is shocking.

They are looking at a link between that one and the one in Las Vegas.

Apparently they found pipe bombs etc in coolers near the site. This points to more people being involved. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/us/news/2025/01/02/new-orleans-terror-attack-us-islamic-state-louisiana/

The worldwide jihad has started. Fasten your seatbelts, kids. They're going to keep surprising us until no one feels safe anywhere.

I'm very concerned about the number of muzzies who work at airports and in pharmacies. It would be SO easy for them to take out a lot of us in those venues.

Expand full comment

It started on 9/11 and has grown in scope and intensity since then. Until every non-Muslim country stops letting them in, and keeps track of those already in, the Jihad will continue. I think that in the future, it will come down to China vs. the Jihadists for world domination, and at that point, the US will have to choose a side.

Expand full comment

It's baffling why Western countries let muzzies in. They have made only negative contributions to every country they've entered.

Bleeding hearts can't be the only reason they're being allowed to immigrate in droves. Money must be changing hands somewhere.

Expand full comment

I just saw a list of, on you tube, of 10 countries that don't allow Muslims to enter.

I don't think it's money changing hands, I do think it's the bleeding heart club that allows them in, that and the Muslim worms inside the government. I'm curious as to how many Muslims in influential, decision making postilions are in the federal govt.

I kind of like the intra coalition spats. As long as both sides of it agree that when the bout ends, we shake hands and the winner's arm gets raised, then we leave the ring together to start walloping on the stuff that matters. The spats allow for voicing of differences, coming to better, more cohesive answers. A fake "cohesive front" with simmering differences just kicks the can for exploitation by the left later.

Can't help but wonder if the recent unexplained drone surveillance is related to Intel about possible Isis and other terrorist attacks re nuclear etc. It's interesting that my husband who doesn't watch much news, got right away that it was a terrorist attack, probably coordinated with others. Maybe the useful idiots who have been supporting these intertwined terror groups and excusing them as oppressed freedom fighters will finally get a clue! WA state has lost it's gender loving mind. How much more proof do the idiots need that this shit is completely toxic?

Expand full comment

Apparently the WA prison system is crazier than anyone could imagine:

The trans perp “proceeded to molest her while she slept and talked constantly about how he wanted to use his sex toys on her” — wait, WHAT????? Washington state allows prisoners to have sex toys? While they’re incarcerated?

Expand full comment

I would not be surprised. WA state prison advisory board is now taking advice from sex offenders and other criminals. You just cannot make this stuff up.

Expand full comment

I think it is more than clear now that many(?) trans males are violent sexual predators. The females wanting to be male are in a whole other category. Or that's what I think now.

Expand full comment

Honestly Louisa, I think there are many different categories of psychological disorders that come under the banner of “trans”. For males, they include autogynephilia, body dysmorphia, autism spectrum, inability to accept their own homosexuality (choosing instead to “become” the opposite gender, and therefore not “gay”), and sexual predators (like the perp in the WA prison who is “gaming” the system for his own criminal ends — which isn’t “trans” at all).

For girls/women who choose to be “trans”, issues include fashion/social contagion, self-hatred/guilt/desire to be higher on the “victim scale” (which brings prestige/privilege), body dysmorphia, inability to accept their own homosexuality, autism spectrum, depression, and other mental health issues.

The tragedy of all this is that, regardless of whether the person is male or female, the group that is “trans’ing” has an enormously high rate of coexisting psychological problems. Why we’re allowing these very vulnerable people to do such damage to themselves with virtually no gatekeeping is beyond me!

Expand full comment

Thanks Orwell's Rabbit. I don't disagree with a thing you are saying, and I recognize the complexity and the mental issues. I was just making a (yes, general) distinction that the male "trans" seem to be where violence lies and the females to male as a group don't seem to be violent. Something has to be changed with the legal situation that allows full blown developed males to just declare themselves females in order to get into female spaces, right?

Expand full comment

As long as they are adults, the choices are theirs. If not adults, the choices should be made by their parents.

This is flat out crazy, and there are millions of Dem/Soc who do believe trans males are really women, millions.

MILLIONS! The Dem/Soc isn't just a political party; it is an asylum, a loony bin full of crazies, and they want to run the country. They believe that Islam is a religion of peace and genocide is OK as long as it is carried out against the Jews and Israel.

The cyber truck explosion. Trump’s enemies will destroy the value of his properties. They wrecked Trump SoHo by boycott, but this time they are doing damage by violence. I don’t know why the man wanted to be president.

Another NYC subway shoving incident. Friends, if you use public transit in NYC, be alert. Do not glue your eyes to your phone!

The video of that poor man being shoved onto the tracks is incredibly disturbing, but ought to serve as a public service announcement. He's standing at the very edge of the platform, practically leaning over the tracks, reading his phone.

Good to hear he was pulled out alive and should recover.

There has always been a faction of disturbed people in the subway. I take it less often, but each time I get on, there's someone sleeping under pile of filthy belongings, or -- like last night -- the foulest smelling, probably homeless man panhandling.

While these are two separate issues, one cannot help but wonder about housing so many "migrants" en masse in hotels and shelters, while so many Americans are in need -- a need that appears to be increasing as housing becomes financially unsustainable for so many.

On that note, when my mother, who lives on social security, moved back to Chicago from Southern California, a co-signer was required in order to get a lease on an apartment with what amounts to very low rent. What if no co-signer was available? How would she have obtained a place to live -- in her 80s, no less? Renting an apartment should not require equity. Isn't that the point?

1.) My optimism from yesterday still stands. It's why I view they outside world with a side eye. Someone please share something that they most look forward to this year (preferably personal and not political).

2.) The obituaries got me thinking about who I will be sad to see has left this mortal world. And the first person that came to mind is Dr. Richard K. Bernstein. Born in 1934, he absolutely has to be the the longest living Type 1 diabetic ever. His story is amazing. If diabetes (Type 1 or Type 2) is in your life, look him up.

I look forward this year to reaffirming that I belong to the earth. I look forward to finding ways to appreciate the space created by so much loss. Much has ended with this old year, I look forward cautiously to what will arise in it's place - praying fervently it will not lead to yet another endless game of Whack- A -Mole ! But perhaps best of all, I look forward to laughing ever more loudly at the inevitable insanity of what it means to be human.

Expand full comment

Anything less existential and more personal? No pressure or anything. 😉

Expand full comment

Well I guess I look at the New Year like a just born baby - I don't want to put too much expectations on it. I'm just glad to have survived the birth and that the baby is alive! And well for me the existential IS personal. For instance- reaffirming I belong to the earth means getting my loudly complaining body out into the world at first light and doing sunrise ceremony, singing medicine songs at the top of my lungs to strengthen myself, and cripple hop jumping into the cold wild water most days and praying I can get back out again without falling down! It means carefully and painfully building a ceremonial fire, making offerings and giving thanks to the Spirit Which Moves Through All Things, It means feeling the trauma of all the places where humans have forgotten that they belong to the land around them and reminding myself NOT to forget that when they clearcut the last old growth forest up here, the spirit of those trees will still live on in me and those roots that remain will still be part of the land itself. I cannot say I am actually looking forward to all that, as it is a helluva lot of hard work, but I am committed to it and I do value the opportunity in this new year to continue doing what is most important to me. I mean other than hoping my husband will outlive me (which is totally selfish I know) and that I will continue to have warm dry shelter, healthy food and a decent vehicle and remain somewhat functional until the end of my own life, I just don't have big visions for the future. When you get old ,you realize that so many of the big important things you thought you might be able to help fix, are just not really fixable. Doesn't mean we shouldn't try to make things better, but the expectation bar is lowered to a more realistic level. Humans would have to have a radical shift in consciousness on a massive scale, so basically a gigantic global miracle, for me to turn into an optimist at this point.

Expand full comment

Maybe optimism was the wrong word to use. Perhaps I should have said my excitement still stands. There’s a big difference between being optimistic about the future with human beings in charge of things and being excited about some upcoming personal life event(s). I was going more for the latter.

"Hopeful, but not optimistic,"

Exactly my take.

Believe that the source of all our problems always comes back to a people addicted to spending.

Whether it is defense or welfare. if we had to pay for the goodies we want folks would demand that spending be curbed.

But because we can push the consequences of deficit spending off to future generations neither politicians nor citizens need to feel the pain associated with their avarice, the insane expenditures go on and on and on.

Neither Republicans nor Democrats have as yet demonstrated the testicular courage needed to say NO to more spending.

Perhaps the Trump administration will but for now like you I remain hopeful but not optimistic.

Trump has already said that he wants to extend the debt ceiling. The one thing the rich are good at is spending money, usually, other people's money.

Not just the rich. You could hold a convention in a telephone booth (if they still existed) of folks who are willing to sacrifice to get spending under control and still have a lot of empty space.

I'd say you're both correct; we are a serious country but currently being governed by idiots. I hope the tide has turned against them, but that remains to be seen.

Expand full comment

We have serious problems because we are not a serious people. Until we seriously tackle the issue of debt we will never be able to claw our way out of the hole we have dug for ourselves.

Expand full comment

I disagree with the broad brush that "we are not a serious people". On the issue of debt, that will be hard; we've conditioned so many to expect handouts; just look at the money cities have spent on illegals! At the top, and in almost every economic sector, crony capitalism has circumvented competition in favor of a few large competitors. At the governmental/fiscal policy level, printing more money just leads to devaluing the dollar driving more and more people into debt. Addressing each of those will take a different solution.

And that is only one issue; the societal rot of "at any time without apology" and letting men pretend to be women are still problems that need to be stopped. I have, perhaps naively, hope that the majority of people have serious problems with how the left has jumped the shark with their positions on these cultural issues. Everyone now has seen the collusion of the media, swamp and bureaucrats to steal an election to keep their hold on power. Time will tell if Trump, Elon, RFK et al can make a difference.

Expand full comment

We'll agree to disagree since we both agree on the problems. Serious people address their serious problems in a serious way. I don't see us doing that.
