Fishing ndustry???

I wondered about that one as well: she may mean sustainability, Chinese overfishing, or even the dolphin kill issue. I remember being pissed when I found out “Chilean sea bass” was a misnomer and I avoid tilapia once I learned about the poop issue. Maybe we should have a day where we each submit our top three topics for 2026 and Celia can derive the poll from those suggestions.

Poop issue?

Good idea about a 2026 topic poll.

Yes, all tilapia these days is farm fished, which means the fish live in a small, confined area. The area is basically full of their own poop so they fill the water with a bunch of antibiotics to keep the fish from getting sick. I’m the same as Ken. I avoid Tilapia whenever possible.

Chef Andrew Gruel talks a lot about the over-regulation of the US fishing industry and it's very interesting. And meant to drive prices sky high and push commercial fishermen out of business, and has mostly succeeded. Then voila we are importing terrible fish like the tilapia from other countries.

See my other comment to Celia.

All tilapia is farm fished and therefore full of antibiotics.

Wow, I didn't know that. Thanks for sounding the alarm. You can't assume that so-called healthy fish is good for you. You can't assume anything is good for you unless you raise it yourself!

Let's take a week off, Celia! It's the day before Christmas Eve.

Or we do “We the People” an extra few days or so? There’s always something in the news . . .

Yes, I meant a break from "regular programming."

It was a good suggestion. Celia has to have her hands particularly full this week. Lots of substackers take a holiday break.

Fortunately I have been able to set up almost everything for this week in advance. So I can cook, cook, cook today.

It’s your blog, Celia, but my take is we live in a 24/7 society now: work, leisure, the news cycle, etc and folks dip in and out of various media streams when they can so “a break” is a bit of a false idol. If people don’t want to visit or comment, they won’t. Some days we all have other distractions or become too busy so miss a few days in a row. You do what you want and I’m sure your loyal followers will…follow lol 😆
