I especially liked the eiffel tower. Funny and scary . And the future

Does Gemini only include those born under the sign or the vast majority of those born during the last 25 years regardless of zodiac matters? Asking for an astrologist I once knew

Roberta L's avatar

Re your last paragraph: I was thinking the same thing.

Michelle Styles's avatar

I love the 'I am not old but I remember the Bicentennial in 1976' one.

This is from the UK a Matt Cartoon about Two-Tier Miss Marple (Never mind the poisoning, officer, I overheard a racist remark at the post office) is spot on: https://x.com/MattCartoonist/status/2062577259626496450

This was also very apt about Starmer kneeling for George Floyd but nothing Nowak. https://x.com/Daiseyjane01/status/2062544761764934112

You are seeing Left leaning politicians saying -- don't politicize Nowak when they politicized the death of an American in an American city. Also it was a political act to introduce the concept of 'racial equity' into British policing, thus causing Nowak to die in a callous manner.

Michelle Styles's avatar

And this from David Lammy -- taking the knee in 2026 is mere symbolism in a way it wasn't in 2020. Hypocrisy. And you can't make him look more like a clown than he is. It is beyond paraody

Even just the name - Lammy. Speaks volumes.

Lame-y

Marcia Gorham's avatar

What does covid have to do with it?

Michelle Styles's avatar

One of the things about pandemics is that it drives people mad. There are often bouts of iconoclasm. When I saw 2020 happen, I had just finished reading Tom Holland's Dominion where he talks about the roots of the iconoclasm which the Orthodox church experienced. It made it easier for me to understand.

However with this, Lammy is just trying to deflect and excuse his past behaviour. He knew 2020 it was performative even though at the time he lambasted people for saying such things.

Just this week he was trying to ensure that anti-racism is embedded in the appointment of judges.

Casey Jones's avatar

I was an actual adult for the bicentennial and yes, I am old. Sorry.

Bruce Miller's avatar

The centennial celebration for the Statue of Liberty in NYC was truly memorable. We need to restore Gotham to greatness. Starting with deporting the commie Islamist back to Uganda! What a cause for celebration that would be!!!

Brian Katz's avatar

Know anyone who can play Batman to restore Gotham ?

Bruce Miller's avatar

A NY Spencer Pratt?

Brian Katz's avatar

That would do it.

Just needs the costume, a bat mobile and Robin.

Unwoke in Idaho's avatar

I didn’t get to go but I recall my mother saying the Tall Ships event for the bicentennial was magnificent.

Mary Cook's avatar

On July 6, 1976 I was in Philadelphia visiting my college boyfriend. I remember seeing the HMY Britannia, and hearing Queen Elizabeth II's speech at Independence National Park. I was standing close enough to make eye contact. It was an amazing patriotic spectacle to witness. I had just turned 21 on the 5th of July.

PoetKen Jones's avatar

If only Mamdani caught Ebola!

B Smith's avatar

Good idea. But the effective cocktail for AIDS treatment has restored NYC to its former bath house glory.

There’s more to fix than just the Islamo-fascist insanity.

PoetKen Jones's avatar

I was on the cusp of adolescence but remember the tall ships etc. I’m not really happy about the UFC bout but I guess our entire society has devolved into a cage match in an octagon (or run by the Pentagon) so maybe it’s apropos.

B Smith's avatar

Y yo tambien.

Bruce Miller's avatar

"You are seeing Left leaning politicians saying -- don't politicize Nowak when they politicized the death of an American in an American city."

Just says it all about these hypocritical creeps.

And "taking a knee???" What could be more cringey and self-abasing? Pathetic.

Michelle Styles's avatar

Yes but it is a good way of exposing the hypocrisy.

I would have more respect for Kaepernick if he'd done it from the start, rather than when he was on the definite slide as a quarterback and trying not to get cut.

I understand where the 'taking the knee' -- taking a moment to pause comes from (he originally just sat but veterans got cross with him), but he became obsessed with it (possibly because he couldn't cope without being a football player).

JBell's avatar

You have much more sympathy (empathy?) for that loser than I ever will.

PoetKen Jones's avatar

He had one good year. Jimmy G was dating porn stars and eclipsed him.

Mary Cook's avatar

Ditto

PoetKen Jones's avatar

Kaepernick was raised in a well off family. He’s about as street Negro as Steve Young with 1/5th the talent. Good riddance.

Michelle Styles's avatar

Yes I know. It was the cynicism with which he deployed it and I believe he had the hots for some radical as well.

DMang's avatar

Exactly. Kneeling doesn’t project power in politics.

It’s okay for marriage proposals and other circumstances and in deference to our creator. Kneeling for a felon who hastened his own demise is laughable and embarrassing. Virtue signaling at its worst

AzAnt's avatar

When i first learned of the killing of Nowak (about a week ago) O was astonished to learn that it happened over a year ago(!!).

And yes, it was disgusting how politicians put the performances of grief for George Floyd ON FULL BLAST for the cameras.

Celia M Paddock's avatar

Not over a year ago. In December 2025.

Michelle Styles's avatar

Part of the reason was that the murderer was caught and standing trial. The video wasn't released until after Digwa was sentenced and so the police narrative held until it was viewed.

Apparently the video Digwa did of the injured Nowak is too disgusting to be released.

"At least you're not speaking German."

What a world.

Have been finding beached little squids. Not unusual to find by the thousands beached menhaden**, but I've never in forty years seen scores of beached squid here on Cape Cod.

Always something new to discover. Yes, what a world.

** A phenomenon that sets a fisherman's eyes alight.

Roberta L's avatar

Makes me wonder what the environmentalists have done now.

B.'s avatar
5dEdited

Haha! Usually means predators. I guess they'd rather die of suffocation than be eaten.

For three days now we've been watching seals 6-8 at a time lope by. (I know seals don't precisely "lope," but I don't know what else to call such leisurely swimming.)

Seals and stripers eat everything. And that's why their prey hurl themselves onto dry sand.

Casey Jones's avatar

No, Mother Nature is Not Nice.

Brian Katz's avatar

Got it, squid are running from the seals.

Must be tasty little morsels.

PoetKen Jones's avatar

Seal Calamari

DMang's avatar

And much cheaper than the fine dining establishments

Brian Katz's avatar

Cook em over a fire on the beach.

B Smith's avatar

The seal must be something like the porpoise. Voracious. When they appear where I’m fishing I know it’s time to move. In the old days here the commercial fishermen would shoot porpoise on sight. Different world.

Celia M Paddock's avatar

I will never forget, when we lived in Oregon, watching the environmentalists' heads explode when it was discovered that a major factor in diminished salmon runs was predation by sea lions.

Celia M Paddock's avatar

Environmentalists ceased to actually care about the environment quite some time ago. Now they only care about gaining more power for the Left. And they have hordes of attention-seeking losers eager to destroy things on their behalf.

DMang's avatar

Money first. The environment is a few notches below

Brian Katz's avatar

That must be bizarre, how big are the baby squid ?

B.'s avatar

About 9-10 inches long. And this AM before we left, in fact there were not scores but many hundreds lined up side by side, a carpet of them. Some people were trying to scoop them up and throw them back into the water.

A terrible waste. Why the gulls weren't eating them . . .

Brian Katz's avatar

Thank you.

A delight for the sea gulls indeed.

B Smith's avatar

Is it lawful for folk to scoop em up for dinner?

B.'s avatar

You can catch minnows and menhaden and I'm sure squid with a net and some bait, and if it's catching season they're legal to eat. I don't know that I'd eat them off the sand even though some were still kicking.

When I was a kid, I used a net, very much like an upside-down umbrella, throw a little Bumble Bee tuna on top of it, and catch whitebait from the Long Island Sound for my Uncle P., who'd flour and fry them up (eyeballs and all) for my family's hors d'oeuvres. In Greek they're called marithes.

B Smith's avatar

Well, something struggling on the sand could be sick, I guess. But if there are hundreds of em together the odds would favor another explanation- like predator avoidance.

Sounds like an idyllic childhood.

We have occasional hard freezes down here that kill or stun the fish. Not legal to scoop them up and unless I knew exactly when one had expired, I would pass even if legal. The fecundity of some of those Eastern waters is something. My daughter is in Maryland. Visiting the Chesapeake was an eye opener. What an extraordinary place. Hope it will survive the Baltimore raw sewage and other affronts.

B.'s avatar

True, these squid weren't sick, as you say. Anyway, all I could think was, What a waste of life.

PoetKen Jones's avatar

I have a friend with the German last name of Birka. I used to tease her but it’s sad now 😞

Celia M Paddock's avatar

Do the fishermen use them for bait?

B.'s avatar

Yes.

Rainbow Medicine-Walker's avatar

Here is what I found for Gemini--- Definitely fits Celia!

"This dynamic sign is known for its quick-witted nature, adaptability, and sharp intellect."

Also

'An incredible ability to balance deep emotional intuition with coolheaded, crisis-management skills.'

Casey Jones's avatar

So from whence the octiarm schizophrenia?

Rainbow Medicine-Walker's avatar

It's all in the perspective my friend.......

Celia M Paddock's avatar

Distractibility combined with a tendency to bite off way more than we can chew. Our aims exceed our energy (which is a bit scary, because we tend to have a lot of energy, unless it is being drained by illness).

Then there's our dark side....

B Smith's avatar

This may be Gemini, I don’t know that stuff. But I’ll say this, it sure sounds like Humani.

Bruce Miller's avatar

June 8 lol

PoetKen Jones's avatar

“Adaptability” is gentle speak for “two faced”. But as Jim Morrison said on the live “Roadhouse Blues” on the American Prayer LP to a groupie in the crowd “You believe in astrology? I think it’s bullshit”:(I’m paraphrasing)

Celia M Paddock's avatar

I was going to protest about the "two-faced" thing...but I've known too many other Geminis who are exactly that, particularly my best friend's evil ex.

I think the problem is that some of us approach relationships the same way we approach projects--throwing endless energy into them...until we simply run out of energy (and in some cases, interest).

It doesn't help that we are so naturally gregarious. It makes us *look* happier and friendlier than we may actually feel.

PoetKen Jones's avatar

I don’t really believe Geminis are any more two faced than anyone. I wrote an essay in college (Pseudoscience Physics 311) about how people learn about the alleged traits of the zodiac signs so mold their behavior accordingly. There’s a term for the effect but I can’t remember. I had a Rough last two days, losing a receivership hearing then a DWI issue on the guy’s last day of probation so I’m mentally wiped.

Celia M Paddock's avatar

Sorry to hear you are in a rough spot.

PoetKen Jones's avatar

Briefly. Despite my creative calling I still hate to lose cases. Beneath Zen Ken, an attorney asshole sometimes lurks. All good but thanks 🙏

I agree with Jim Morrison.

Great round up Celia! My oldest graduates HS this week and I’m now on the board of the local youth hockey org which was run into the ground by the so called “experts” who couldn’t manage their way out of a box. Lots of cleanup to do so I’ve been busy….

I hope everyone enjoys the weekend (and family time), let the festivities begin!

Good ones. The last one rings true for me. I remember the bicentennial. Makes me remember the beautiful tall ships that graced our shores in celebration

mcara's avatar

Yup! Saw it in person on July 4 in NYC. It was a big deal for a midwestern kid who had just moved to NYC the previous July. We didn’t stay for the evening fireworks as there was a fabulous NY Philharmonic concert in Central Park that evening. Back then NYC was a total sh!t show but at 22 I didn’t care much - it was a big adventure.

(It was a pretty short stay, then on to beautiful Manhattan KS for some more culture shock)

B.'s avatar

And yet despite the urban decay of the time, we had Philharmonic concerts in all our major parks and the Metropolitan Opera too. People sat on blankets and remained quiet and listened.

I knew things had turned in the early 2000s when hawkers with glow-in-the-dark bracelets started walking around. And then others showed up with their own boomboxes playing not opera and not the 1812 Overture. And Park Slope parents let their kids throw frisbees over the audience's heads.

JBell's avatar

I saw a news clip on the Ingraham Angle of the ships in New Orleans. Beautiful ships and a fantastic tourist idea!

Casey Jones's avatar

Gemini gunk. I do not grok homage to the "signs.." Though I suppose that I've grown into my persona as the crab and I have had cancer... unpersuaded.

Notes from the Under Dog L.'s avatar

My mother is a Gemini committed to not finishing most things. Our kitchen was half blue and tan throughout most of my childhood, for example. She did finish crocheting the living room curtains and a yarn chubby coat I was embarrassed to wear because chubby coats were made of rabbit fur.

I remember the Bicentennial and just realized that I’m on a road trip that could follow some of the trajectory my family took on our “Bicentennial tour.”

The Babylon Bee deserves a prize for its humor. Never a miss.

Out on the road in the Midwest, numerous 250 flags flying. It’s almost the old country that I remember before moving to NYC, except in my hometown supermarket the checkers are all humorless Russians.

Avoid Minneapolis. They’re getting a courage award for resisting ICE. That is , an award for insurrection . Ffs.

PH's avatar

It’s true insanity. We’ve gotten so used to the weird that sometimes I forget how incredibly bizarre it is for people to be fighting against law enforcement.

Pamela Christiansen's avatar

TDS , it’s a real thing. It’s what hatred does to people. I am genuinely terrified of Democrats regaining power. Sadly , gas prices and Iran might just be what turns the tide.

Unwoke in Idaho's avatar

Gas is coming down.

Pamela Christiansen's avatar

Had some conversations with up state New York farmers, landscapers, truck drivers today. They’re not happy with Trump. They cited Iran, gas, and fertilizer prices as reasons they are no longer fans. These guys are usually his base in these parts.

Unwoke in Idaho's avatar

Well encourage them to

Hope for a democrat resurgence then. Everything will be so much better.

B Smith's avatar

If they think the Ds are a better option, they’re not smart farmers. Have they failed to see what progressives have done to farmers world-wide?

Jen Todd's avatar

They're more dissatisfied with Trump than the imbecils that run NY? The same imbecils that hoped to eliminate fossil fuels. We made our living farming and had to pay the cost for Joe Biden's "Putin's price hike" for all the diesel required to run a farm.

Notes from the Under Dog L.'s avatar

Gas is a dollar less in Wisconsin and Indiana…it’s 3.50 and change there, and 4.50 and change in Illinois, Ohio, PA, and certainly in NY.

PoetKen Jones's avatar

I dated a fashion professional for a year but I have no idea what a chubby coat is; however I DO remember crochet and macrame. Groovy, baby, Groovy! 😃

Notes from the Under Dog L.'s avatar

Chubby coats were popular in the mid-70s; a short rabbit fur jacket. I bought one in a thrift store in CA in the early aughts and whenever I wore it, cars would slow, and the drivers would tell me to get into the car.

Sometime later in a fiction writing workshop I was teaching, I mentioned this while going on about dressing characters. I admitted that I had no idea why men were beckoning me into their cars whenever I wore this jacket.

A black woman in the class laughed and said, "One of those calico fur jackets?"

Yes.

"That's a ho jacket!"

Bruce Miller's avatar

And what makes you think Geminis have dual personalities........?????????

Geminis are known to behave in shifty “twin” ways, but as a Scorpio ♏️ I will say our passionate retributive side is no picnic. The UK’s knife trope is truly insane. You can’t have a steak knife but crazed religious fanatics can carry ceremonial daggers. 🗡️ it takes a lot to laugh, it takes a train to cry. Have a nice weekend Purple Fam ☮️
