Have a blessed and joyous day, my friend!

What the heck, lay claim to the whole week, Celia! I can’t remember my 60th. If you celebrate for a week, you might remember it at 70.

Happy birthday 🎂!!!!

'JiP Founder Turns 60' is the best news of the day. Happy Birthday!

Hi all. Hopefully Gary is getting moved out of that horrible horrible hospital tomorrow to a decent nursing facility. It's been brutal. The one and only doctor I actually trusted in that whole mess left two days ago for his break. Thankfully he listened to me when I said I thought Gary had been having mini strokes for awhile and he actually did a brain MRI-- and yes signs of multiple mini strokes with blood clots. Gary has serious vascular disease and while apparently everyone is reluctant to diagnose it at this point- likely he has developed vascular dementia which would explain the behavioral changes and massive denial this past year as well as the mess his finances are in. he is still pretty out of it but hopefully the shift to rehab will help. Our first choices of facilities refused him, but oddly, or maybe appropriately enough, it looks like he will be going to the facility in the town where he was born and raised. Its a very long drive for me, but hopefully he will get more visits from old friends and family there. Reading back over this, I realized I used the word hopefully alot- that kinda sums up my life right now. Hopefully many more Happy Birthdays for Celia and us all!

Keeping you and Gary in my prayers.

I am currently watching World Two with Tom Hanks and keep hoping that your grandfather will get a mention.

Rainbow Medicine-Walker's avatar

Thanks. Been feeling grandpa's spirit close by through all this.

Michelle Styles's avatar

He raised you to be a fighter! I wanted to cry with the Pearl Harbor footage. I am currently on the War at Sea --- there are like 20 episodes. It is to match the World at War.

Bruce Miller's avatar

Check out the old Victory at Sea series. It was masterful.

B.'s avatar

Was just going to suggest that, Bruce.

With music by Richard Rodgers.

Bruce Miller's avatar

And an utter absence of PC cant.

Michelle Styles's avatar

A great series.

Thus far, World War 2 with Tom Hanks is pretty good. There is not much of PC cant btw. The rape of Nanking is covered and the barbarism of the Japanese.

Mary Cook's avatar

The rape of Nanking and the barbarism of the Japanese is barely mentioned in high school history classes. There is, however, much coverage of the horrible USA with the internment of Japanese Americans. There is no cause and effect element. History is remade through a WOKE curriculum.

Celia M Paddock's avatar

I'm surprised at the lack of Woke. Years ago, Tom Hanks said that we only fought the Japanese because America is racist. He's a very good actor, but I completely lost respect for any opinions he might have after that. He is certainly NOT who I would have chosen for such a role.

Implausibly Convenient Alibi's avatar

I've been sensing his vibe (as the kids would say) as well. You are leading and taking charge and The Admiral would be proud. I'm visualizing Gary's sister as a Charles DeGaulle-esque presence... please continue to keep us posted.

And happy birthday Celia!

B.'s avatar

I'm hoping with you, Rainbow Medicine-Walker.

Rainbow Medicine-Walker's avatar

Thank you!

Celia M Paddock's avatar

It sounds as if the top priority at this point is finding a doctor who will diagnose the vascular dementia. I wish you the best of all possible luck in your endeavors to deal with this. I pray for you and Gary every day. *hugs you tight*

Rainbow Medicine-Walker's avatar

All the prayers is what is getting me through right now. Several friends have told me it is strangely hard to get a dementia diagnosis. likely because of money. Apparently several services kick in with that. My nurse friend had a heck of time getting her father diagnosed. He had to steal the car and get lost before finally his doc would sign off on it.

Pick up some audio books for the long drive, find a lovely spot to rest or to eat on the way. I pray the staff are kind to him there.

So many hearts are with you, Rainbow.

Rainbow Medicine-Walker's avatar

Thank you Roberta. I would be a completely non-functional mess right now if not for all the prayers and support.

Sea Sentry's avatar

Best wishes, Rainbow. These are not easy things.

Thanks for this update Rainbow. I think of you and Gary every single day.

Congrats on turning 60!!!

Good news of a sort here -- the Nowak thing is not going away for the Government. Starmer has now started to blame Elon Musk. It is a bit rich considering Starmer famously took the knee for George Floyd (a policing matter which didn't concern a British politician)

JackStraw who was the Home Secretary at the time of Macpherson has said the current anti-racism guidance has gone too far. https://www.thetimes.com/uk/politics/article/keir-starmer-two-tier-policing-henry-nowak-nigel-farage-36b8klrrm or https://archive.ph/eSQcJ

The BBC have had to apologise to Farage for saying that he called it 'white cold rage ' when his actual words were 'pure cold rage'.

And a coroner has ruled that a jury inquest must examine if the police actions contributed to Nowak's death. It was due to take place on 20 Sept but may be brought forward in the public interest. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/06/04/henry-nowak-inquest-to-examine-if-police-action-led-death/

Michelle Styles's avatar

So Starmer is now going to meet Henry Nowak's family.

Kemi Badenoch has already met the family. They agree with her approach. They knew what the reaction would be when the footage was released btw and do want to bring about change in policing. https://x.com/KemiBadenoch/status/2062477297333006460

Casey Jones's avatar

I get DIEism amongst the "leaders;" how on earth did the bobbie (do they still call them that?) on the street get so seriously warped?

Michelle Styles's avatar

Through training. It is the only way to advance. The National College of Policing made it a priority. It has all gone badly wrong as many predicted it would do.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/06/02/cult-diversity-inclusion-heart-henry-nowak-police-force/ or https://archive.ph/j1OWZ

The basic assumption should have been if someone says they are stabbed, treat it as a stabbing until conclusively proved otherwise. If the person is lying, you can then charge them. If not, you will at least be treating that person with dignity as they die instead of what happened to Henry Nowak.

Casey Jones's avatar

Mr Jupp does a dive into the odious training.

Bruce Miller's avatar

An infusion of militant lesbians?

Celia M Paddock's avatar

Not only militant lesbians, but lesbians who are offended when a child (in this case, an autistic 16-year-old girl) notices that they're lesbians. https://www.lbc.co.uk/article/seven-officers-drag-autistic-girl-hate-crime-female-lesbian-nana-DWzdXc_2/

Bruce Miller's avatar

They should have been doused with lighter fluid and promptly torched. There is nothing worse than an abusive crooked cop.

Bruce Miller's avatar

Shouldn't they be shunning Queer Keir?

DMang's avatar

Starmer looks like my gay uncle. Also he…wait a sec…someone’s pounding on my door telling me to come out with my hands up. I’ll get back to you shortly.

Bruce Miller's avatar

Please send them my way. Starting with that prancing pussy, "Sir" Mark Rowley.....

Implausibly Convenient Alibi's avatar

Those poor people. How cringe. But I watched their press conference and they are Starmer et co's worst nightmare; articulate, attractive, and focused. I'm hoping for a complete collapse of the Labor party but then again I hope for a full-flavor, fat-free potato chip.

I'm also cheering for the Restore Party in the Makerham (?) by-election. I know that Nigel Farage's watch is telling him this is the hour and his mirror is saying he is the man, but there's something very George W Bush about him.

Michelle Styles's avatar

Farage is a showman. He can't share the spotlight. BUt the situation is tailormade for Reform. They should not have attacked Badenoch as she has been consistent in her criticism of DEI.

What Restore may do in Makerham is ensure that Burnham is elected.

Kemi Badenoch is emerging as a very credible leader. May, Johnson and Sunak made such a hash of the party that she faces strong headwinds.

Starmer is trying to pick a fight with Musk. <eyeroll>. He does not get it how angry ordinary people are.

It will be interesting to see what Burnham says as he is supposedly going to make a statement on Nowak after consulting Greater Manchester Police.

B Smith's avatar

It’s the carbs! What you want is a potato-free fat chip! 😊

B Smith's avatar

It’s the carbs! What you want is a potato-free fat chip! 😊

Celia M Paddock's avatar

If I were in his family, I'd spit in Starmer's face. Literally.

DMang's avatar

That would be entirely appropriate and should be preceded by; “Mr. Starmer, on behalf of the citizens of this country” followed with a towel tossed at his stunned face and “Now get the f**k out of this house.”

It would certainly be worth the punishment which couldn’t be any worse than losing a family member in such a monumentally stupid and callous manner.

Jen Todd's avatar

Nice people have gone along for far too long being "nice".

Chilblain Edward Olmos's avatar

Nice is what got us where we are. Fuck nice. Do the right thing, do good, even if it hurts. Excuse my French.

Jen Todd's avatar

Exactly! I'm done with nice. Fuck nice for the slobs who think their bullshit deserves a nice response. Do not excuse my French.

Orwell’s Rabbit's avatar

I hope they sue the proverbial pants off the police. It won’t bring back their son, but it will have more deterrent value than a boatload of politicians “apologizing”.

Bruce Miller's avatar

Give "the Beeb" the Scott Pelley treatment!

Celia M Paddock's avatar

I'm glad this is not going away.

Implausibly Convenient Alibi's avatar

Good heavens, the ratio. I think it's one of the biggest I've ever witnessed: https://x.com/Lord_Talbot64/status/2062139622461722688, original post: https://x.com/GBPolitcs/status/2062124202405093619

The original post from GBPolitics: "NEW: 11 officers were injured during last nights riots in Southampton". Gist of over 3.3k replies, most of them with tens of thousands likes, is "I don't think they were, mate."

Which is the reply the police officer gave to Henry Nowak as he bled out, saying "I've been stabbed." Officer: "I don't think you have, mate."

It's hard to gauge the amount of rioting in Southhampton but it seems to be centered on the assailant's home and the protesters are throwing large, wheeled trashcans (bins) at the local police. In one video, a very heavy bin is seen sailing through the air at least 20 yards, and someone commented "Get whoever threw that bin an Olympic tryout!" Golf clap.

Earl Camembert's avatar

I'm now seeing "I don’t think you have, mate" popping up in numerous online posts and references.

Celia M Paddock's avatar

I saw someone suggest that the response to being called "racist" should be, "I don't think I am, mate."

cat's avatar

But using it that way, wouldn't this imply that the accusation is really truthful? 🤔

Celia M Paddock's avatar

I guess one could interpret it that way, but I see it as invoking the event, which demonstrated that the current trend of racism is actually against white people.

Happy Birthday, Dear Celia! You are an amazing woman in every way. You have fought and clawed your way through life and that’s the reason why people love to read and hear from you. There’s nothing like hearing from a common sense woman who actually had to endure hardship yet continues to keep on keeping on. Enjoy this glorious milestone. Send a BIG HUG and much love from your JiP family. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

My wife and I spent 4 years at KSU and both have graduate degrees from there. We had a great time in Manhattan, KS - (1977-1980 and we are both quite a bit older than you Celia - happy birthday)
