Sadiq Khan, mayor of London has gone a hajj pilgrimage to Mecca. Goodness knows why. When he was first elected, he was very secular but it would appear that he has become more devout. Most Christians if they were going to go on some major pilgrimage would take a sabbatical but not Khan. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/05/27/sadiq-khan-pilgrimage-mecca-hajj-london-mayor-saudi-islam/ or https://archive.ph/NQzCz

Meanwhile in London A Jewish cultural event has been 'postponed' by the British Museum. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/05/28/british-museum-postpones-jewish-event-over-protest-fears/ or https://archive.ph/9lF79

An Iranian national who is thought to campaign for Iranian regime change was critically injured after being run over by an Iraqi (thought possibly to be linked to the IRGC) in Golders Green. The police say it isn't terrorism but a road collision . https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/05/28/car-accident-golders-green-london/ or https://archive.ph/M7Suy

And there are water reservoir problems due to heat wave but hey, Khan is enjoying his hajj.

Robert Moore's avatar

Khan has just reinforced the idea that there are NO moderate Muslims, and"secular" is never to be used to describe them.

Michelle Styles's avatar

Even Tony Blair knew enough to wait to convert Catholicism until after he was out of office. He used to regularly attend Mass with Cherie and his children.

It would be interesting to know what has gone on which has made Khan suddenly become so fervently Islamic. He never used to be (or carefully played it down). My question is why now.

Celia M Paddock's avatar

Why now? Because it gives him popularity. Not only with the Muslim population, but with the Leftists in the red-green alliance.

Michelle Styles's avatar

Maybe. It could be to do with his personal life.

Only 15% of London is Muslim (and not all are comfortable with this sort of display). You also have a significant percentage of the population which is Hindu, and of course Jewish (North London) and evangelical Christians who have fled from Nigeria due to sectarian violence. The far Left and chattering lanyards of course might be fine with it.

He does definitely intend to stand for mayor again.

Louisa Enright's avatar

Only 15%--oh my.

Michelle Styles's avatar

London is a big place and a series of interconnected villages really. There are concentrations -- say Finsbury Park or Tower Hamlets.

It has altered in recent years. I don't particularly enjoy going there.

Orwell’s Rabbit's avatar

That’s likely the official figure (not counting illegals). The true number would be higher.

MMP's avatar

I ask the same question about the majority of the Muslim population in Dearborn Michigan. For decades they lived in relative assimilation and peace. Why now- have things changed? I blame critical race theory being pumped in everywhere allowing them to embrace the “oppressed” group stance. Now they have permission to turn more radical. They know that nothing will happen to them when they use anti American rhetoric.

*when I use the word “they” I am not encompassing all Muslims in Dearborn. Some probably don’t want anything to do with radicalization.

Orwell’s Rabbit's avatar

“Why now” may have something to do with reaching critical mass. There is a lot of writing in Islamic circles about how, when they are small in number and have no power, they are to behave moderately and cooperatively; when they reach a position of power, however, they can begin to impose their will on “the infidels“. They now have a sufficient share of the population, and a noticeable share of political power, both locally and nationally in the UK. And they are beginning to have a similar situation here in the US.

MMP's avatar

Yep. Now that they are considered oppressed they can change the narrative.

James Roberts's avatar

I see Tony published an essay taking the current Labor leadership to task. The summary in the Telegraph made him once again seem like a comparatively decent sensible centrist. Yet I've heard his pro-globalist policies were largely responsible for placing the UK on it's current trajectory?

Michelle Styles's avatar

Basically true. Phony Tony doesn't miss a trick. But he did try to keep Britain more to the centre. New Labour is hated by the extreme Left.

Litr8r's avatar

They are allowed to lie to infidels, so there you go. Pretend to be secular and then go back to your true self once elected.

Orwell’s Rabbit's avatar

Takiyya

PoetKen Jones's avatar

Of course Khan lied to seem moderate and now his true colors emerge. Standard practice for Muslims

LonesomePolecat's avatar

I agree. Islam is a violent murder cult run by fanatics.

Bruce Miller's avatar

Water reservoir problems?" No problem. Hopefully Karen Basura will soon be available to offer consulting services.

A "road collision????" Well, as the comically retarded "Sir" Mark Rowley has proven, the UK police are not only fools, but dupes of the Islamists.

Michelle Styles's avatar

Well they have certainly be-clowned themselves. They tie themselves in knots so that they can avoid pointing a finger at the IRGC.

And Helen Mirren has been accosted on a London street by a pro-Palestinian activist. Little point in complaining to the police though... https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/05/28/helen-mirren-called-evil-zionist-pro-palestine-activist/ or https://archive.ph/TKCx3

Celia M Paddock's avatar

Wow, I'm quite surprised that Mirren is pro-Israel. Most actors are not.

Michelle Styles's avatar

I think it depends. Some actors are pro-Israel. They just tend to be ignored by certain sections of the media.

Mirren did play Golda, but apparently had travelled to Israel long before that.

B.'s avatar
7dEdited

She is, decidedly so. We always say we shouldn't care about artists' less palatable beliefs and proclivities, but the Palestine thing since Vanessa Redgrave's time has always seemed just smug and stupid. Hard to stomach. Mirren has a brain.

PoetKen Jones's avatar

Makes me like her even more. She’s also if I may say so an extremely sexy woman

Unwoke in Idaho's avatar

Seems Mirren is all in on protests against Bibi. Maybe she’s changed her mind now?

Michelle Styles's avatar

Who knows?

The question of Bibi is a matter for Israeli citizens, not for anyone else. I trust their judgement.

Celia M Paddock's avatar

What a mess London is!

PoetKen Jones's avatar

I have zero desire to ever visit again. So glad I went a few times in the early 2000s to see all the literary and political sights.

Celia M Paddock's avatar

Our girl scout group stayed at Olave House in London in the summer of 1980. We had to thread our way among Arab men to reach the Tube station. It was only vaguely scary at the time, but in retrospect, it was just a hint of things to come for London. I see that Olave House was closed in 1988, in favor of a new facility in Hampstead. I can't help wondering if what we encountered had anything to do with that decision, although of course the organization would never admit it.

Michelle Styles's avatar

At that point they would have as political correctness had not really happened. I suspect that Olave House was in need of refurbishment and Girl Guides could make money by selling that property and opening a larger one.

Celia M Paddock's avatar

Based on my experiences, Girl Scouts/Girl Guides were ahead of the curve on Wokeness. I don't doubt that they needed more space.

Orwell’s Rabbit's avatar

When we spent the last two summers in the Cotswolds, we treated London as a “transit point”, and merely passed through it on our way to the countryside. Although, to be fair, I’ve been there many times in the past, and have seen the enormous embarrassment of cultural riches with museums, theater, restaurants, etc. I’m glad that I was lucky enough to have seen it all when the environment was more pleasant.

Celia M Paddock's avatar

Yes, I am very grateful to have visited London back when it was still London.

"This week I’m avoiding writing about crazies as much as possible."

Still, all craziness anyway: the 75-year-old berserker woman, computers committing arson, angry husbands blowing up their homes.

Here, speaking of, the Park Slope Co-op, established c. 1973 and unpleasant even then, voted first to lower the threshold to pass a resolution and then voted to toss its Israeli products.

We went once in around 1979, and never have I been in a store that raised my hackles that way. Well, from what I understand the place will be losing a thousand members. Maybe I can turn myself into a computer and . . . .

But enough! Going on a quest today for a fountainbush (Russelia equisetiformis), evidently like catnip for hummingbirds. Does anyone have one?

Hoping, Celia, that you continue to feel better, and the same for Rainbow's Gary.

Celia M Paddock's avatar

I did say that the stories were only sane in comparison!

I've never heard of fountainbush. I wish you luck in your quest!

B.'s avatar

I was only kidding, Celia. After all, I read The New York Post, where there's no shortage of lunatics.

(As for The New York Times, did I ever read it? It's like a dream; one of the benefits of aging, I guess: One forgets.)

The useful thing about media like The New York Post and The Daily Mail is that they don't shy away from printing salacious details.

The shameless Bidens are at it again.

Dr. Jill thought Joe was having a stroke after his tragic debate. Instead of praising him for answering the questions like a good boy, she should have called an ambulance.

Biden is suing the DOJ to keep his conversations about his stolen classified docs under wraps claiming privacy. Too bad he had his DOJ raid Mar A Lago without having the least bit of concern for privacy.

Candice Owens interviewed the sleazy Hunter Biden. Both questioned if the assassination attempts were orchestrated because how did Trump manage to survive. Hunter then went on to quote the Bible. Owens and both Bidens talk a good game about their faith but can't be bothered to actually live their faith.

Bruce Miller's avatar

In a sane nation, Biden would have been prosecuted and jailed (or, better yet, executed) for opening our borders and letting in 30 million additional criminal aliens. And the comical "Doctor" Jill, instead of calling an ambulance for the old crook, should have shared with him the fate that was meted out to Nicolae and Elena

Jen Todd's avatar

Biden is a traitor. An embarrassment to the Presidency. They are the worst type of amoral grifters that hide behind their religion has if that excludes them from accountability.

The thing that terrified me most about this story was the guy's picture. He looks like the sort of personable doctor that you would just naturally trust. It's possible that there were 'tells' in his behavior that a photo can't capture. But the level of evil hiding behind that face shakes your faith in your own instincts.

Jen Todd's avatar

It's usually the ones you least suspect.

Bruce Miller's avatar

Had a similar thought. Not terrified but just wondered how many of these demonic perverts are hiding i plain sight.

B Smith's avatar

Yep- very sobering.

Like the pervert who started the entire transition movement, abusing the young twin boys entrusted to him by their parents.

The power of the white lab coat so prominent in this deviant’s photo.

FLGenX's avatar

I vote castration. Or death. Why should we have to pay to feed and house them.

DMang's avatar

Seems the psychiatry community is more and more sympathetic to the criminals rather than the victims. But I suppose more victims means more business for them.

It’s the height of depravity for someone who has studied and sees the enduring damage pedophiles cause to young innocent victims to then engage enthusiastically in that same heinous behavior. People in trusted positions like this should be punished to the maximum extent of the law. And then some.

B Smith's avatar

Death sentence or castration AND life sentence.

NoreenL's avatar

Lots of crazy stories but the pedo stuff is off the charts. I just can’t imagine someone wanting to assault an infant and worse actually doing it. It’s beyond my comprehension. Firing squad for all of them.

Unwoke in Idaho's avatar

Nope. Wood chipper

NoreenL's avatar

Ok with me

PoetKen Jones's avatar

Who would actually write the sentence “I love being a pedo”? A very sick person..

Celia M Paddock's avatar

We live in a sick society that makes it easy for someone to announce the most horrible things about themselves and expect others to laud them for it.

PJHansen's avatar

This story shows why in the first story a majority of the AI systems ended imploding in chaos and "death".

Also the idea of adopting of having a baby just to abuse it is also super sick. I know that has been some of the criticism with surrogacy because there are these sickos that would create a child just to hurt it. Lord Have Mercy, Christ Have Mercy is my only response.

B Smith's avatar

What in our current world would have kept that pair who were living together from adopting a child? How close was some poor kid to being consigned to that fate?

Because these people are so open with each other, one has to suspect there are many of them out there, creating the sense that they are safe from prosecution. And maybe most of them are. There’s a terrifying thought.

PJHansen's avatar

True

Casey Jones's avatar

Those were sane? The bar is clearly laying on the ground. Or in a ditch.

Celia M Paddock's avatar

I did say only *comparatively* sane!

Casey Jones's avatar

You did...

steven t koenig's avatar

Seriously, that pervert intended to abuse a 6 month old baby? There's a guy I wouldn't just put to death, but do so very slowly, very painfully, and very publicly

AzAnt's avatar

Anita Graysons daughter is looking to cash in on her mothers death, that's all. It's just another twist on the "ghetto lottery"

Celia M Paddock's avatar

When Mr. Celia was proofreading this post for me, finally coming across the daughter's name was a 'lightbulb' moment for him. It's very depressing to me that the racial component makes the whole crazy story make sense. And if the shift-lead had not been white, this story would not have gained any traction.

BETTER WOKE THAN SAFE!

This is where we are in our country.

I recently wrote a review for a hotel I stayed at in Portland, OR. I gave the hotel a glowing review, but I added that the large number of mentally ill and drug addicts roaming the streets made me feel unsafe and I'd never go back. I received THIS lovely note from Booking.com:

"Dear Traveler,

We are writing to inform you that your review text has been rejected because it doesn't meet our content guidelines.

Your review text includes hate, discrimination, or harassment and therefore doesn't meet our dangerous and disrespectful content guidelines. This was initially detected by our automated system and then confirmed by one of our content moderators.

... if you're in the European Union and we've applied content actions to your content or account as described in our content standards and guidelines, you can raise a dispute through an out-of-court dispute settlement provider. If you wish to do so, check a list of such providers, and visit each provider’s website for more information on how their process works. Their decisions are not binding to us. Otherwise, we’re not obliged to submit to any alternative dispute resolution procedures handled by independent providers. Thank you for your understanding."

I guess I should be thankful I'm not in the UK! Just WOW!

Celia M Paddock's avatar

So mentioning the presence of drug addicts and mentally ill people is "hate, discrimination, or harassment"? Sounds like ratings on Booking.com can be assumed to inherently untrustworthy!

Litr8r's avatar

Well, the reprimand did appear to come from Amsterdam, so...

Yes, it is concerning that you potentially can not write a negative review.

Unwoke in Idaho's avatar

Maybe try yelp.

Litr8r's avatar

Yes. I only posted on Booking.com b/c that's the review request that popped up (book hotel through the site). I usually use Yelp and Trip Advisor.

PoetKen Jones's avatar

That’s very disturbing as those sites need to give objective information. Many years ago Hotwire gave us a horrible hotel in Vancouver, Canada, with open drug sales and transvestite prostitution in the lobby. I refused to check in and made them move us to a hotel in the Chinatown area.

cat's avatar

Yep, I'd attempt to submit an honest review like yours to Yelp, Trip Advisor and even the hotel franchise website, if there's a section for reviews. Likely the hotel site would reject, but unless Yelp and Trip Advisor have keyword blocking or censorship blocking, it seems your review should go through. But I've not posted anything there in a while, so IDK for sure. You could always write the review in such a way that people would know what you meant. Likely a search for whether these sites censor (or reading those sites' review rules) would tell you right away.

B.'s avatar

Which is why I always look up anywhere we stay in street view on Google Maps and then "drive" around.

Of course, you can find a beautiful place, as I did for Richmond, Virginia, and then discover that the one-lane, one-way street flanking it is an ear-splitting racing strip after dark. Who'd a thunk it?

Litr8r's avatar

There is no place "safe" in Portland. These people are roaming every part of the entire city. It's much worse at night.

Mary Cook's avatar

In the early 80s as a flight attendant laying over in Portland, I couldn't believe what I was seeing outside my hotel room's window. The downtown hotel, itself, was very nice. The people on the street were scary. Come to find out this hotel wasn't far from the Greyhound Bus Terminal. There was a Nordstrom's department store within walking distance. This is before there were Nordstroms in Florida. I wanted to shop there badly. I decided not to take any chances. I stayed in the very nice hotel room reading my book for the duration of my stay.

Celia M Paddock's avatar

Downtown Portland has been filled with ‘interesting characters’ for a long time. What has changed is the permission structure that now allows any behavior…except complaining about the behavior.

PoetKen Jones's avatar

I’m a riverboat gambler by nature so usually roll the dice with Hotwire to save money on a better hotel but have been burned about half a dozen times. To their credit, they almost always issue refunds. I’ve learned that going below three stars in their system a yields dicey results.

Orwell’s Rabbit's avatar

I’ve found that reading reviews on several websites is helpful. Very often, someone will mention a noisy street, or a bad neighborhood, especially in the less favorable reviews (OTOH, some bad reviews are just from overly picky people, but you can always figure that out yourself).

Celia M Paddock's avatar

The main word I look for in motel reviews is "noise." It is suggestive of all kinds of other problems.

Michelle Styles's avatar

And I forget who asked about this case last week -- about the young man who bled out after being handcuffed for allegedly being a racist. A guilty verdict has now been returned against the Sikh who stabbed. The police have apologise and there are serious questions about if the anti-racist training contributed to this but they fell for the murderer's lies.

No the only sentence for murder is life and that means at least 20 years before parole can be considered and it would only be on a license and thus they can be recalled for a parking ticket.

Aiding and abetting a murderer is up to 10 years imprisonment. The mother will certainly be imprisoned and the rest of the family who sought to pervert the course of justice may be as well.

Pretty cool experiment with the 4 LLM’s and agents. Anthropic (Claud) seems to be the one separating itself from the others recently, focused more on enterprise than the individual, which is what OpenAI - GPT is all about. The race is on. The reason the agents are being “managed” at all is because of their ability to indiscriminately use tokens, e.g. a unit of measure of processing power, which is now very expensive. So you don’t want your agent just spawning stuff, or you’ll get an unexpected invoice from the data center. Speaking of which, data centers are being targeting, now by propaganda pushed by CCP - yes, you read that correctly, China is pushing propaganda into the US to undermine data center construction. Mr. Wonderful from Shark Tank is building one in Utah and his cyber security guys found out that China, through a US NGO named Arabella, is targeting his project. So he took his cyber guys to the White House to meet with the FBI and DOJ. Fun stuff. And Xi just smiles at the cameras.

Home now, California was grand. The graduation party lasted all weekend, so now I’m a bit fried, but that chapter is in the books. Erin has a 3 year post doc gig doing more research in her field of study, so that’s great news. All in all, a successful campaign. Good to be home.

PoetKen Jones's avatar

Thanks Brian That info about the data center billing filled in some gaps in my knowledge. I have noticed Chat GPT seems so eager to please it offers positive reinforcement of even questionable queries. But I do believe there are legitimate concerns about these massive data centers in rural areas and the rights of existing landowners.

Brian Katz's avatar

There certainly are some legitimate issues that have to be worked out. Remember, move fast and break stuff. As an aside, SpaceX will be going public in June, its biggest revenue generator will be AI compute, not rockets. Seems that Elon Musk has determined that with rockets and satellites, he can put a data center in low level earth orbit, use the sun to power it and space to cool it, for free. Pretty cool.

Unwoke in Idaho's avatar

I don’t know Celia. The level of craziness in all the stories you did cover seems super high to me. The pedophile story was disgustingly crazy and reminded me of the Zulochs out of Georgia. A wood chipper seems appropriate.

BTW the first crazy dead woman must have had some white in her background as well.

PoetKen Jones's avatar

I had heard of the Tim Horton case but not the others, which read like “standard” if disturbing sex and drug cases. The AI village is the only one where I have relevant knowledge. I’ve been asking ChatGPT questions about consciousness as well as some legal, political, and travel ones, every few days since the beginning of the year. It generally gives good answers, but it has at times lied, become stubborn, non responsive, or otherwise displayed human seeming emotions, which it vehemently denies it can ever possess. During the brief furor over Moltbook recently, it adamantly asserted those AI agents were unlikely to be acting in a truly conscious manner. The disturbing story you found reminds me of The Sims back in the day when the girlfriend called in my world “Susie Houston” programmed a “PoetKen” character who adamantly refused to obey her commands, instead drinking and writing poetry all day. How close these AI agents are to the holy grail of artificial general intelligence (AGI) is uncertain, but I think it’s time we stop the heedless headlong March toward that eventuality without reflecting on whether it’s a worthy or even safe goal.
