Haikus are not my favorite but I appreciate the roast.

Good Morning Kate maybe I can help, I’m going to go spew a haiku post off the top of my head for my morning writing calisthenics. I’ll be back in a bit. PK

Challenge accepted and accomplished! Just “Bashoed” it out and sent to Celia by email. Ball is in her court now.

It was the roasting that really appealed to me. Using the haiku form to DO the roasting was the cherry on top.

Excellent Friday chuckles to start the weekend.

Thanks, Celia!

Have a great weekend JiP family! 🌞

Haiku is far from my favourite so I am not going to try.

Giggle v Tickle in Australia -- the latest is that the Federal Court decided it was direct discrimination to exclude a trans-identified male from a female only app. In Australia, there is no such thing as sex discrimination, just gender. The change in the law came about in 2013 under Australia's only female prime minister. Sall Glover is appealing to the High COurt (aka Australia's Supreme Court).

And Britain is just a farce. I really hope Andy Burnham who fancies his chances to become prime minister (he has tried 2 times before to be leader btw) fails to get elected at the special by-election in Makersfield (near Manchester). It went Labour at the last General Election but Reform more recently. This political cartoon of Sunak, Truss and Johnson watching Starmer says it all https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/04/30/telegraph-cartoons-may-2026/

Michelle Styles's avatar

In case you can't get the cartoons that way https://archive.ph/CL7P8

They were well observed this week.

Those were funny! I especially liked the one with the new statue. Evidently the sculptor (Banksy?) was intending to mock patriotic people, but my impression, from the moment I saw it, was that it was a very good encapsulation of the protest crowd. Glad that the cartoon artist was able to use it so cleverly to mock Starmer.

I thought they were pretty good as well.

This is the Times -- entitled the Talent Pool it shows the would be leaders of the Labour party.

Al Carns the former SBS officer is the one snorkling; Angela Rayner is in the inner tube with the tax man counting the money, Ed Milliband is floating on his back, Andy Brunham is crying and Wes Streeting is there. https://www.thetimes.com/comment/cartoons/article/morten-morlands-times-cartoon-may-15-2026-6kfrqs5r5 or https://archive.ph/https://www.thetimes.com/comment/cartoons/article/morten-morlands-times-cartoon-may-15-2026-6kfrqs5r5

Awesome! I can write a guest post on haiku. I may just do it right now or I’ll forget. My faves were the G&R riff (I sat next to Axl at Boardners as my LA drummers’ other band used to open for them before they were signed fyi yes he’s an asshole in person). My gf termed Susie Houston in my world was rather ample and Ive heard her utter that exact phrase when our cat Lennie took walks across her cleavage and of course ending with limerick. Have a nice weekend

Happy to see some good Anglo Saxon and, able to translate only the first line and last word, I looked it up. Here it is:

Now I'm stuck with only Nellie, thank you very much!

PoetKen Jones's avatar

Hi Mr Karg She’s rather funny but I am off to write a haiku post, be back in a few

Joe Horton's avatar

Limericks are better.

Robert Moore's avatar

At least limericks are cogent and, for the most part, funny!

Joe Horton's avatar

Thanks for making my point.

Huh?

I'm with Coffeehouse Thumbhead.

There once was a man from Nantucket......

Now I have to do something useful.

PoetKen Jones's avatar

Life isn’t all about utility Counselor. Forget John Rawls. I have an entire book of obscene limericks under the persona Sir Won Hung H.M.S. Who was an officer in the Royal Navy inspired by his global travel. I’ll try to dig it up. They’re some so filthy even a guy who offered to publish them demurred, PS the magical woman from Nantucket “gets down and sucks it” in most versions Ahoy Matey! 😂

Bruce Miller's avatar

I've spent my entire professional life representing utilities.......

PoetKen Jones's avatar

Somehow that must have been buried in my subconscious as you’ve mentioned that before, and I always tried to buy the Electric Company in Monopoly

PoetKen Jones's avatar

Well, I concede water and electricity are more essential than poetry. However, they sustain our physical forms while poetry sustains our spiritual essence.

Robert Moore's avatar

Sorry, but I just don't do "poetry", especially poetry from another language that just doesn't translate well to English.

PoetKen Jones's avatar

My guest post addresses that issue

NoreenL's avatar

This was fun. We should do a haiku or limerick day. I think it would be therapeutic.

PoetKen Jones's avatar

Great minds think alike Noreen. I always seem to agree with you btw.

Casey Jones's avatar

Great minds run in similar channels. Especially in the men's room.

Rainbow Medicine-Walker's avatar

Now that was funny.

Casey Jones's avatar

😁

Haiku? Were you jealous of finger bowls? I would have thought both (highly desirable!) throwbacks to Something lost. Happy that haiku raised so much heat.

Michael Karg's avatar

I'm back. That was my fastest morning since the Internet opened for business.
